I-16 Crash Leaves 8 Injured

Three vehicles collided on Interstate 16 at Dean Forest Road on Wednesday afternoon. The I-16 crash resulted in injuries to eight people and forced the closure of all eastbound lanes.

The Pooler Police Department described the accident which occurred around 1 p.m as “severe”.

The Georgia State Patrol said the driver of a car was distracted and they rear-ended a van that had stopped in traffic.

The I-16 crash caused the van to strike the pickup truck in front of it.

The Savannah Professional Firefighters Association reported that they extracted three victims from vehicles with the help of Pooler Fire.

The seven occupants of the van and the driver of the car were transported to Memorial Health.

According to the GSP, the people in the van suffered a range of injuries including internal bleeding, a broken leg, head gashes, and a possible broken leg.

The extent of the car driver’s injuries was not clear.

However, the two people traveling in the pickup truck were examined at the scene and released.

The driver of the car, whose name was not disclosed, was cited for distracted driving, following too closely, and driving with an expired tag. Additional charges are likely.

Meanwhile, a Wednesday morning accident in Athens claimed the life of a 50-year-old driver.

The victim has been identified as Dianna Brown. Her Chevrolet Tahoe collided with a Ford Taurus on Milledge Avenue around 7:19 a.m.

According to preliminary reports, both drivers were going in the same direction on the GA10 Loop when the collision occurred. The Tahoe overturned and landed on its roof.

The unnamed driver of the Taurus was hospitalized. Their injuries were not deemed life-threatening.
