4 Killed in Kingsland Multi-Car Crash

A three-year-old girl was among four people who died on Tuesday afternoon following a multi-car crash on Highway 40 in Kingsland, Georgia.

This was confirmed by state authorities on Wednesday.

Georgia State Patrol officials said investigations revealed that the driver of the Nissan Maxima involved in the crash was speeding and driving erratically before the vehicle crossed over the median barrier.

The car then struck the front of a Ford F-250 that was traveling east.

The little girl and the three adult passengers in the Nissan died in the crash. The three-year-old was the only passenger who was restrained, according to GSP.

Meanwhile, a nine-year-old boy was ejected through the windshield and he was listed in critical condition as of Wednesday.

The F-250 rolled on its roof and the driver suffered minor injuries.

The Camden County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased adults as 25-year-old Jeremy Gelsey, 33-year-old Rose Downhour, and 31-year-old Christopher Chambley.

GSP said Downhour was driving the car when the crash occurred, and she was the mother of the children.

Downhour’s mother Kathy Barker said she was finding it hard to cope since she lost her daughter and granddaughter and her grandson was in the hospital.

She said it broke her heart to learn that Downhour didn’t restrain her son with a seatbelt or put her daughter in her car seat.

However, she asked people not to judge her daughter since she loved her kids.

The family of Chambley also expressed heartbreak.

His sister Heather Chunn said the siblings only had each other after they lost their parents.

The accident caused the eastbound and westbound lanes to be shut down for hours and drivers were asked to avoid Highway 40 and Mariners Landing.
