Driver Could Be Charged After Serious Crash on Edmondson Road

State troopers believe alcohol was a factor in a crash on Edmondson Road that caused serious injuries to a driver on Saturday night, February 13. The accident occurred around 10:45 p.m., according to Walton County Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Craig League.

Firefighters had to remove the driver from the vehicle.

Corporal Cal Barton of the Georgia State Patrol identified the driver as 24-year-old Monroe resident John Matthew Towler. He allegedly failed to maintain his lane while navigating a left turn. His northbound vehicle left the road, went up an embankment, and hit multiple trees.

The vehicle then traveled more than 100 feet before it struck another tree and came to rest on the northbound shoulder.

Towler was treated at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center for his injuries. Barton said Towler’s passenger, 29-year-old Joshua Randolph Hooper did not suffer any injuries.

Barton said the investigation into the crash on Edmondson Road was ongoing and charges were pending against the driver.

Meanwhile, in a separate matter, the Downtown Connector had to be closed for hours Monday after a tractor-trailer tipped over on a bridge above the interstate. It dislodged a chain-link fence and left it dangling over the highway.

The truck rolled partially onto its side and ended up on the wall of the Langford Parkway bridge.

The tractor-trailer was reportedly carrying 44,000 pounds of toilets and sinks.

Atlanta fire Captain Bret Bieri said the driver was uninjured and he climbed out of the cab on his own. He pointed out that the southbound lanes of the interstate were closed to prevent damage in the event that the fence fell.

If you suffered serious injuries in an accident, you may be able to recover your losses. A Georgia car accident attorney can assist you with everything from establishing liability to getting fair compensation.
