Off-Duty Police Officer Died In Motor Vehicle Accident

Off-duty Police Officer Tristan Clemmons died after being involved in a motor vehicle accident on Highway 67 when his motorcycle collided with a truck, reports WTOC. According to police and eyewitness reports, the truck veered from the right-hand lane to make a left turn across the left lane in which Officer Clemmons was driving.

Whether the driver of the truck was at fault is yet to be determined as the collision is still under investigation by the GSP Specialized Crash Reconstruction Team. However, officers say that charges are pending against the driver of the truck.

If the driver of the truck is found to be at fault in causing the collision, he may face severe penalties and could be charged with vehicular manslaughter or involuntary manslaughter. If he was found to be impaired in some way while driving, those charges could be elevated to murder. If his actions are found to be the cause of the accident, he can also be charged with murder. For example, if he was texting while driving.

The fact that he crossed a lane to make a turn is already a factor that could play a role in determining the type of charges that will be brought against the driver of the truck. Over and above this, he could face civil lawsuits from the family of the deceased officer.

The family of Officer Clemmons can claim any medical expenses that resulted from the accident as well as damage to property. They can also claim for loss of income and pain and suffering from the loss of a loved one. These claims may or may not be covered by the insurance policy of the truck driver.
