Teenager Charged With Vehicular Homicide After Head-on Crash in Eatonton

A 16-year-old boy is now facing a charge of misdemeanor vehicular homicide after being involved in a deadly head-on crash in Eatonton on Monday morning, April 12.

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills revealed that 44-year-old Emmanuel Ward of Siloam was killed when the young driver’s Ford pickup truck struck his Ford Focus.

The head-on crash in Eatonton took place around 6:45 a.m. on Pea Ridge Road. Sills said the teen fell asleep while driving to school at John Milledge Academy and he wasn’t injured in the accident.

The boy will also be charged with failure to maintain lane and Sills said he was expected to turn himself in after school on Thursday, April 15.

The sheriff said the vehicular homicide charge is a misdemeanor because the driver wasn’t impaired and he doesn’t have a poor driving record. Sills said the boy would lose his license but he won’t go to jail.

Meanwhile, two teenage girls were injured in a rollover crash that occurred on Saturday in Brunswick.

They were driving out of a McDonald’s parking lot and going across U.S. Highway 341 when a car that was heading south struck them. This is according to Sergeant Shane Copeland of the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team.

The impact of the collision caused the teens’ vehicle to roll over and one girl was ejected from the vehicle. The girls’ names were not released.

Copeland said they were taken to a nearby hospital and the one who was thrown from the vehicle is said to have serious injuries.

The other driver was identified as a man. However, no details such as his identity or his condition have been revealed.
