Teen Driver Killed in Dawson County Wreck

A 16-year-old Forsyth County driver died on the evening of November 12 following a crash at the junction of Highway 53 West and Thompson Road in Dawson County. Lt. Col. Stephanie Stallings of the Georgia Department of Public Safety said the Dawson County wreck victim was identified as Everett J. Streit of Cumming.

According to reports, Streit was driving a Nissan Skyline north on Thompson Road around 6 p.m. He stopped at a stop sign and then allegedly failed to yield for traffic on Highway 53. He was struck by a Honda.

Dawson County Emergency Services Division Chief Jason Dooley said when crews arrived on the scene, they found an off-duty firefighter performing CPR on one of the injured individuals.

Streit died on the scene while a minor passenger in his vehicle was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. That individual was said to be in stable condition.

The driver of the Honda sustained minor injuries and didn’t go to the hospital, according to Dooley.

The Georgia State Patrol will be investigating the Dawson County wreck and Stallings said the full crash report was not yet available.

Before the crash that claimed Streit’s life, another local teen was injured in a single-car accident near Highway 136 in Dawson County. Dooley said that the individual suffered a serious head injury and was also taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Meanwhile, another Cumming resident died in a crash earlier this month. On November 8, 43-year-old Ali Zoughi died in a single-car wreck on Shady Grove Road.

He was allegedly driving at an excessive speed when his vehicle hit the southbound shoulder of the road just before Holland Drive. Zoughi was not wearing a seatbelt and he was ejected from his vehicle.
