Teenaged Woodstock Motorcyclist Killed in Crash

Eighteen-year-old Bryant Lai became Cherokee County’s fourth traffic fatality for August over the weekend.

The Woodstock resident was involved in a motorcycle crash on Saturday night.

Spokesman for the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, Capt. Jay Baker, said deputies were dispatched to Stone Bridge Parkway near Towne Lake Parkway around 9:30 p.m.

Lai’s bike was the only vehicle involved in the crash. It appears that he was unable to stay in control of the motorcycle and he hit the curb. He was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta and he succumbed to his injuries there.

Baker said the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit was looking into the crash. He noted that early investigations suggested that speed had a role to play.

Three other people died in traffic accidents in Cherokee County in August.

On August 22, 26-year-old Ian Shelley of Canton also died in a motorcycle accident. It occurred in Acworth on Ga. Highway 92.

That same day, 19-year-old Savanna Joyce Martin suffered fatal injuries on Interstate 75. The Cartersville resident was ejected from the vehicle in which she was a passenger after it struck a guardrail and tree. The driver of that vehicle is suspected of being impaired.

Meanwhile, on August 19, 61-year-old Susan Kay Chambers died after a tractor-trailer struck her Ford Ranger from behind. Chambers, a resident of Cumming, was waiting to turn off Ga. Highway 20 near the Forsyth County line when the crash occurred. The collision shoved Chambers’ vehicle into the westbound lanes, and it was then hit by another tractor-trailer that was going in the other direction.

If you lost a loved one in a crash involving a negligent driver, you may be entitled to compensation. A Georgia car accident lawyer can assist you in recovering damages. Your civil case will be independent of any criminal charges that may be filed against the at-fault driver.
