About the Dougherty County Magistrate Court
The Dougherty County Magistrate Court holds jurisdiction to issue warrants for all criminal offenses, conduct committal hearings, cite individuals for bad checks and violations of zoning ordinances, and provide good behavior bonds.
Additionally, the court exercises civil jurisdiction for cases up to $15,000, where exclusive jurisdiction is not vested in the Superior Court. Garnishments can also be filed in this court.
The Magistrate Court has the authority to issue subpoenas to ensure the attendance of witnesses, conduct hearings and trials. Upon request, Magistrates may serve as judges in other courts and perform wedding ceremonies.
