The victim of a Lee County four-car crash that happened December 16 was identified. According to Lee County Coroner, the deceased man is 53-year-old Kevin Owens of Albany.
The accident happened around 6:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of U.S. 19 South close to Publix and Chick-fil-A.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, three other people suffered injuries that were not deemed life-threatening. They were taken to the hospital.
Public Information Director for the Department of Public Safety, Lt. W. Mark Riley, said Owens was driving a 2000 Toyota Tacoma and heading south on GA 3/US 19 when the accident occurred.
Also going south was a 2016 Nissan Sentra driven by 48-year-old Angela Young and a 2017 Toyota Corolla driven by 46-year-old Kelsey Adams of Americus.
At the same time, 41-year-old Kenneth Williams of Leesburg was driving north in a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe.
Riley said Williams tried to pass a vehicle that was going north in the center turn lane and he lost control of the Tahoe which started to rotate counterclockwise. The Tahoe went into the southbound lane of GA 3 and struck the front of Owens’ vehicle.
The Tahoe subsequently struck the Sentra then the Tacoma rear-ended the Corolla.
GSP said the roads were wet when the accident occurred. Their investigations into the Lee County four-car crash are continuing.
As of October 15, preliminary statistics showed that 1,202 people had died on the state’s roads for the year so far. For the same period in 2019, 1, 200 lives were lost.
