A 54-year-old Calhoun man died on Sunday after a Highway 53 crash involving his motorcycle. He has been identified as Jeffery Grady Lingerfelt.
The crash occurred close to the intersection of Fairmount Highway and Lovers Lane/Outlet Center Drive.
The driver, 51-year-old Eddie Lee Hampton was arrested in conjunction with the Highway 53 crash, and he is facing multiple charges.
The Georgia State Patrol said officers from the Calhoun Police Department asked for assistance in investigating the crash.
According to GSP, Hampton made an improper U-turn and Lingerfelt’s bike struck his car.
The preliminary crash report said Lingerfelt was traveling east on Highway 53 when the crash occurred.
Hampton was arrested on the day of the crash. He is facing charges of felony probation violation, first-degree vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, improper U-turn, and driving while license suspended or revoked.
GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team continues to assist with the investigation.
Meanwhile, GSP is also looking into a Baldwin County crash in which five people were injured.
The early morning accident happened on Monday and one person was left nursing a broken femur.
Trooper First Class Kevin Kirby said a Chevrolet Suburban went across the center line and struck a Ford Fusion head-on.
The driver of the Suburban was traveling along Highway 22 heading to Milledgeville from Sparta when he reportedly fell asleep at the wheel. Four people were in the vehicle and they were all injured. None of the injuries were life-threatening.
The driver of the Ford sustained a broken leg. There were no passengers in that vehicle.
